| Shortdesc: | Vinal Technical High Schools News Podcast. All the latest news and events from all the shops, academics, clubs, and sports, by students for students and the school community. |
| Description: | A weekly podcast will be created by teams of students in both IST classes and the language arts lab. Teams of students will brainstorm weekly a list of categories for the upcoming podcast. Students will either choose or randomly pick from the list of categories. Students then will pull from a list of roles such as investigative reporter, writer, editor, proofreader, anchor person(s), or photographer to get jobs assigned for the week. The groups will have individual rubrics for each job and group rubrics for which they will be graded. The rubrics will be graded based on student’s participation, effort, and team work. Each student will also have the opportunity to create their own podcast monthly for extra credit. All podcasts must be submitted in writing and approved before recorded. A team of students will check for spelling, grammar, and content. A teacher must approve the podcast before it is posted to the schools website. The podcasts will be posted to the school website to be shared with the school community. The resources for the grant will be help the students integrate technology into all areas of the curriculum: Tool Factory Software: The software will be used to create and publish the podcast; copies will be installed on all the computers in the school. Digital Voice Recorders and Microphones: Students will use the voice recorders to interview other students in the school to find out what is going on in the individual shops, academic classes, clubs, and sports. Students will also practice using them to record notes and bring them on field trips. The noise canceling microphones will be very helpful in cutting down the background noise while creating the podcast. Web Page Station: The Web page station will be used to save space on the schools server. Clip Art Station: The Clip Art Station will be very helpful to help students add images and sound to their projects. Worksheet Station: The storyboard and script writing worksheets will be used for podcast planning and production.
